Description
Cloves are from the buds of the Syzygium aromaticum, an evergreen tree in the myrtle family, and its main active component is eugenol, which can help kill bacteria, parasites and viruses — not only in our food (when it is used as an herb or a preservative), but in our own bodies.

Cloves have long had important medical uses: as an antiseptic to stave off cut and wound infections; as a short-term remedy for toothaches; as an antiemetic (to helps control vomiting); and as a treatment for diarrhea and some parasitic infections. Studies have also shown that the oil in cloves can help kill several strains of Staphylococcus bacteria and one strain of Pseudomonas (organisms that can cause skin infections), so you may be well advised to add cloves to your diet, especially during cold and flu seasons.
